Metallics MWDPW112K – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a Walldog anchor and when would I use one instead of a plastic wall anchor?
A Walldog is a one-piece screw anchor that drives straight into a pre-drilled hole in masonry, brick, block, or drywall with no separate plastic sleeve or plug. The Metallics MWDPW112K is the 1-1/2 inch pan head Phillips version in white. Because the anchor and the fastener are the same part, there is nothing to expand or collapse behind the surface, which is why electricians reach for these for conduit straps, box mounting, and light fixture plates instead of a plug-and-screw combination.
2) How many Metallics MWDPW112K Walldog anchors come in a pack?
They ship 100 anchors to a clamshell pack. That is a service-van quantity rather than a bulk contractor box, so if you are standardizing a building or a large rough-in, plan on multiple clamshells.
3) Do I need a special driver or a drill bit for Metallics Walldog anchors?
The head on the MWDPW112K is a pan head Phillips, so a standard Phillips bit in a drill or impact driver drives it. You still pre-drill: Walldogs are not self-drilling, and the hole diameter has to match the anchor so the threads cut and hold. Follow the hole size on the pack for the base material you are anchoring into.
4) Does the white finish on this Walldog anchor matter for exposed installs?
It does if the head will be seen. The MWDPW112K is white coated, which blends into white drywall, white trim, and white device plates, so it suits exposed mounting of straps, plates, and fixture canopies in finished rooms. For concealed work behind a cover plate the color is irrelevant and a plain or zinc finish Walldog does the same job.
