Metallics TS45120SS Anchors 1/2 x 5-1/2 Wdg SS (Box 25)

A 1/2 inch wedge anchor uses a 1/2 inch carbide bit - hole diameter matches the anchor diameter on a wedge anchor. Drill deeper than the embedment you need so debris has somewhere to go, then set the anchor and tighten the nut to expand the clip against the concrete. At 5-1/2 inches overall, the TS45120SS leaves plenty of length for thicker fixtures such as base plates and strut channel standoffs.

Stainless steel is the reason to pick this one. The TS45120SS is a stainless wedge anchor, so it suits exterior slabs, wash-down areas, pool decks, parking structures and coastal work where a zinc-plated carbon steel anchor would rust and stain the concrete. For dry interior anchoring, a plated carbon steel wedge anchor in the same 1/2 x 5-1/2 size does the same mechanical job.

Wedge anchors are for solid, poured concrete only. They work by a expansion clip wedging against the wall of a drilled hole, which needs the compressive strength of concrete. In hollow block, brick or mortar joints the clip crushes the material instead of gripping, so use a sleeve anchor, a screw anchor rated for masonry, or an epoxy with screen tube in those bases.
