Metallics WAK14H – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size screw do the Metallics WAK14H red plastic wall anchors take?
The WAK14H is a 1/4 inch red plastic wall anchor kit. The 1/4 designation is the anchor size, so you drill to suit the anchor body and drive the matching screw supplied in the kit. It is a plastic expansion-style wall anchor for light duty mounting, not a masonry sleeve or wedge anchor.
2) Are these Metallics red plastic anchors suitable for mounting device boxes and conduit straps in drywall?
Yes. The WAK14H is an electrical fastener, a 1/4 plastic wall anchor kit of the type used to hang straps, small boxes, covers and similar light fixtures on hollow wall surfaces. For anything carrying real load, or for overhead work, step up to a toggle or a masonry anchor instead.
3) Is the WAK14H a concrete anchor?
No. This is a red plastic wall anchor, which works by expanding against the sides of a drilled hole in wall material. If you are fastening into poured concrete, block, or brick under load, a plastic wall anchor is the wrong choice; use a steel sleeve, wedge, or screw-type masonry anchor rated for the pullout you need.
4) Is the WAK14H sold as a kit with screws included, or anchors only?
It ships as a wall anchor kit rather than loose anchors, packaged in a clamshell. Metallics catalogs it as WAK14H, a 1/4 red plastic wall anchor kit.
