Metallics WAK15S – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Metallics WAK15S wall anchor kit?
It's a 1/4 inch red plastic wall anchor kit from Metallics, ordered under part number WAK15S. Plastic anchors like these are the standard way to hang light-duty items into drywall or plaster where there's no stud behind the fastener.
2) Is the WAK15S anchor kit suitable for hanging heavy loads on drywall?
No. A 1/4 inch red plastic expansion anchor is a light-duty fastener, meant for things like small boxes, brackets, or trim. For a TV mount, heavy cabinet, or grab bar, you want a toggle bolt or a metal self-drilling drywall anchor instead, or fasten into framing.
3) Do I need a separate drill bit size for the 1/4 inch Metallics plastic anchors?
Yes, the hole has to match the anchor body. These are 1/4 inch red plastic anchors, so drill the wall to the anchor's 1/4 inch diameter and set the anchor flush before driving the screw. Oversizing the hole is the usual reason a plastic anchor spins out of drywall.
