Metallics JHW516234 Anchors 5/16 X 2-3/4 Hmmr Drv Wedge Zn-C (Jar 50)

Drill 5/16 inch, matching the anchor diameter. Wedge anchors are sized so the hole diameter equals the nominal anchor size, and the JHW516234 is a 5/16 by 2-3/4 inch anchor. Drill the hole deeper than the embedment you need so dust and cuttings have somewhere to go, then blow it clean before driving.

Wedge anchors like the Metallics JHW516234 are for solid concrete. The wedge expands against the sides of the drilled hole, so it needs dense, uncracked base material. In hollow block or brick you get an unreliable set, and the right choice there is a sleeve or toggle style anchor rather than a wedge.

The JHW516234 is zinc clear plated, which is a mild corrosion coating meant for dry interior concrete. For exterior slabs, parking structures, wash-down areas, or anywhere standing moisture is likely, step up to a stainless or hot dip galvanized wedge anchor instead.

50 per jar. It ships as a jar pack rather than loose count or a bulk box, which is the usual way an electrical contractor buys them for strut, hanger, and panel mounting work.

A hammer drive wedge anchor sets by driving the pin with a hammer, rather than torquing a nut with a wrench. That makes it fast for repetitive fixings such as strut, conduit clamps, and box backing, but it is a permanent fastening: there is no nut to back off, so the fixture cannot be removed and re-tightened the way it can with a standard threaded wedge anchor. Use the threaded type where you expect to service or remove the attachment.

JHW516234 is the Metallics number, covering the 5/16 by 2-3/4 inch zinc clear plated hammer drive wedge anchor supplied 50 to a jar. Order by that number to avoid picking up the threaded nut-and-washer version.
