1) Can I use the Metallics 5/8 inch zinc-plated anchor outdoors or in a wet location?
Zinc plating on carbon steel is a light corrosion coating meant for dry interior service. For exterior exposure, washdown areas, or anything coastal, specify a stainless or hot-dip galvanized anchor instead of the zinc-plated LCS5850.
2) Does the LCS5850 anchor need a separate nut and washer?
No. It is a hex head anchor, so the head is integral and you drive it with a socket or impact wrench, the same as a lag or hex bolt. There is no nut, cone, or expansion sleeve to assemble, which is why electricians use this style for fast overhead strut and junction box mounting.
3) How thick can the material I am fastening be with a 5/8 x 5 inch anchor?
The 5 inches is overall length, so your fixture thickness plus embedment has to fit inside it. Subtract the thickness of the strut, base plate, or bracket you are clamping from 5 inches to see what is left for embedment in the concrete. If a thick base plate leaves you short, step up to a longer anchor in the same 5/8 inch diameter rather than accepting shallow embedment.
