Metallics ZSAL2J – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What screw sizes does the Metallics ZSAL2J wall anchor kit cover?
The Metallics ZSAL2J kit is a self-drilling wall anchor kit sized for #6 and #8 screws, which covers most light-duty hollow wall work like switch plates, conduit straps, raceway clips, and low-voltage boxes.
2) Do I need to drill a pilot hole for the Metallics ZSAL2J anchors?
No. These are self-drilling wall anchors, so the anchor body cuts its own hole in the drywall as you drive it with a screwdriver or driver. No pilot hole and no hammering.
3) Will the ZSAL2J self-drilling anchors work in plaster, concrete, or block?
No. Self-drilling anchors of this type are made for hollow drywall only. They need a hollow cavity behind the board to seat in, and the threads will not cut masonry or plaster over lath. For concrete or block you want a masonry-rated anchor instead, such as a sleeve anchor, plastic screw anchor set in a drilled hole, or a Tapcon-style concrete screw.
4) How many anchors come in the Metallics ZSAL2J jar?
One hundred anchors, packaged in a jar rather than a carded blister pack. The jar format is what electricians and maintenance crews buy for the van or the shop shelf when they are setting anchors every day.
5) Are screws included with the Metallics ZSAL2J wall anchor kit?
The ZSAL2J is sold as a kit of 100 anchors sized for #6 and #8 screws. Plan on supplying the screws to suit your device or strap, and match the length so it engages the anchor without bottoming out behind the drywall.
6) Is the ZSAL2J anchor kit zinc plated or solid zinc?
The ZSAL2J anchors are zinc alloy (zamac-type) self-drilling wall anchors, described by Metallics as zinc. That metal body is the difference from a plastic self-drilling anchor: the threads are stiffer going in and the anchor holds a #6 or #8 screw without stripping as readily. Zinc anchors are intended for dry interior locations.
7) How do I order the Metallics ZSAL2J anchor kit, and is there more than one version?
There is a single configuration: part number ZSAL2J from Metallics, the #6 and #8 self-drilling zinc wall anchor kit in a 100 count jar. No finish, size, or pack options to choose between.
