1) Which Arlington FBS box do I use for 5/8 inch drywall?
Two of the three work with 5/8 inch drywall. FBS405 and FBS405T are rated for either 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch drywall at 6.0 cubic inches, and FBS407 is the 5/8 inch drywall version at 8.0 cubic inches. If you are on 1/2 inch board, order FBS405 or FBS405T; FBS407 is 5/8 only.
2) Do I have enough box fill in an Arlington FBS pan for my fan wiring?
Box volume is 6.0 cubic inches on FBS405 and FBS405T, and 8.0 cubic inches on FBS407. If you are landing a fan with a light kit, a separate switch leg, and grounds, count your conductors before you commit, and go with the 8.0 cubic inch FBS407 when the count is tight. Fan pan boxes are shallow by design and box fill is the usual limiting factor, not the load rating.
3) What is the difference between Arlington FBS405 and FBS405T?
Same box, different mounting. FBS405T comes with a threaded bracket mount; FBS405 is the plain version. Both are 6.0 cubic inch pans for 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch drywall. Pick the T if you want the threaded bracket for the fixture hardware, otherwise the FBS405 is the same pan.
4) Is the Arlington FBS fan box UL listed for code-compliant work?
