1) What is an Arlington LVMB low voltage mounting bracket used for on a new construction job?
The Arlington LVMB is a plastic mounting bracket that gives low voltage devices a mounting surface in an open stud bay before the drywall goes up. It is not a box, so it carries no enclosure for line voltage conductors. Communications, data, coax, thermostat, speaker and similar low voltage terminations get a rigid plate to screw a plate or device to once the wall is closed. It comes in a 1-gang (LVMB1) and a 2-gang (LVMB2).
2) Does the Arlington LVMB come in a 2-gang, or only single gang?
Both. The 1-gang is LVMB1 and the 2-gang is LVMB2. Those are the only two sizes in the LVMB line, so a 3-gang or 4-gang opening needs a different bracket. For a run of data drops in an office or multi-family build, the 2-gang lets you land two plates at one stud location instead of chasing a second bay.
3) Is the Arlington LVMB a new work or old work bracket?
