Plated steel, finished silver. The plating is the corrosion barrier, and it's a reasonable choice for conditioned commercial plenums in offices, retail, schools, and healthcare. Steel also means the box is bondable and takes standard grounding practice. For genuinely wet or corrosive environments, a plated steel box is not the right specification.
