Arrow 356 26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What lip length does the Arrow 356 strike have, and why does it matter?
The lip is 1-1/4 inches. Lip length has to carry the latch past the face of the frame and any trim or stop, so it is the dimension to measure before ordering: too short and the latch drags on the jamb, too long and the lip protrudes into the opening.
2) Can I use a deadbolt strike plate in place of the Arrow 356?
No. The Arrow 356 is a lip strike for a latch bolt - the 1-1/4" lip guides the latch on a cylindrical or mortise lockset in an ANSI 4-7/8" frame prep. Deadbolt strikes such as the Deltana SP2753, which measures 2-3/4" x 1-1/4" in steel, and the Emtek 83223 standard deadbolt strike plate with square corners are sized and shaped for a bolt that is thrown by key or thumbturn, not for a spring latch riding across a lip. Use the 356 for the latch and a deadbolt strike separately if the door has a second bore.
3) My frame prep is a small round bore, not a 4-7/8 inch ANSI cutout - what should I order instead of the Arrow 356?
The Arrow 356 needs the ANSI 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" frame prep it is dimensioned for. For a round bore in the jamb, the Kwikset KWI-80318 is a full round adjustable strike. If the existing hole is oversize or the latch is sitting off center, the Kwikset KWI-81825 is a 6-way adjustable deadlatch, which allows the engagement point to be shifted rather than requiring the jamb to be re-cut.
4) What finishes can I get the Arrow 356 strike plate in to match the rest of my doors?
Six finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 satin bronze oil-rubbed, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Those are standard BHMA finish codes, so you can match the strike to the N Series trim already on the openings by code rather than by eye.
5) I need an ANSI strike for a code lock, not an Arrow N Series lock. Is the 356 the right one?
Not necessarily. The 356 is cut and drilled as the genuine Arrow N Series strike. If you are fitting a Codelocks unit, the Codelocks ASA strike plate in stainless is the matching part for that brand's prep.
6) For a commercial building standardizing strikes across many doors, is the Arrow 356 or the Codelocks ASA the better fit?
Both are ANSI/ASA-format strikes. The Arrow 356 is a commercial replacement part matched to the Arrow N Series, and it comes in six finishes - 605 Bright Brass, 606 Satin Brass, 612 Satin Bronze, 613 Satin Bronze Oil-Rubbed, 625 Bright Chrome and 626 Satin Chrome - so one part number can be carried across doors with different trim finishes. The Codelocks ASA Strike Plate is supplied in a stainless steel finish, a single appearance option. Choose on which lock family and finish scheme the facility is already standardized.
7) Does the Arrow 356 include a strike box, or do I order that separately?
The Arrow 356 is the ANSI face plate itself - 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" with a 1-1/4" lip, supplied as a genuine Arrow replacement part for N Series locks. If the opening also needs a mortar guard behind the plate, that is a separate item: the Kwikset 81640 is a strike box and the Kwikset 81231-001 is a metal strike dust box. Confirm the pocket depth in the jamb before pairing a box with the 356.
8) Is this strike plate suitable for high-traffic commercial buildings, or is it residential grade?
It is a commercial part, built for office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, government facilities, warehouses and multi-tenant residential. Residential-duty adjustable strikes like the Kwikset 80318 full round adjustable strike are a different class of hardware.
