Arrow DBX61-SR-630-AR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Arrow DBX61 deadbolt fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes, and how far past that you can go depends on which cylinder you order. With the standard conventional cylinder, the DBX61 covers doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches (35mm to 44mm), which takes in both the 1-3/4 inch commercial standard and the older 1-3/8 inch interior door. Order the SFIC version instead and the range widens to 1-3/8 to 2 inches (35mm to 51mm), so a built-up or thicker leaf is still covered by the same model.
2) My building has deadbolt holes bored at both 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 backset. Does the Arrow DBX61 cover both?
One part number handles both. The DBX61 latch adjusts from 2-3/8 inch (60mm) to 2-3/4 inch (70mm), the two backsets doors are normally bored at, and the adjustment is made at the door with no separate latch to order. That is the reason to buy it for a mixed building: you are not sorting stock by backset. If you would rather have a fixed backset unit, the Deltana CL200LA is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadbolt built at 2-3/4 inches.
3) Can I get the Arrow DBX61 deadbolt on a Schlage C keyway so it runs on the keys my building already uses?
Schlage C is the DBX Series standard cylinder, ordered as the CS option. There are two other cylinder choices: AR for the Arrow keyway, and IC for small format interchangeable core. The conventional cylinder is solid brass, drilled for six pins and pinned to five as stocked, so the sixth chamber is there when a locksmith brings the lock into a master key system, and each keyed lock ships with two nickel plated brass keys.
4) Does the SFIC version of the Arrow DBX61 take Best cores?
The IC version accepts 6 or 7 pin interchangeable cores and will take Best or Falcon type cores. It ships less core, so it is the one to order if you already run an SFIC system: you pin and control the cores yourself and can key a whole property alike without ordering keying from the factory. It is also the version rated to the wider door thickness range, 1-3/8 to 2 inches.
5) Will the Arrow DBX61 drop into the deadbolt prep already in my door and frame?
Three numbers decide it. The bolt front measures 2-1/4 by 1 inch, and a plastic spacer is supplied for a 1-1/8 inch mortise, so both common edge preps are covered without machining the door. The steel strike is 1-1/16 by 2-3/4 inches. On the bore side, the latch adjusts between 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inch backset, so an existing cross bore in either position lines up. Where an old strike pocket is a different size, plan on filling and re-cutting the jamb.
6) Does the Arrow DBX61 have a key on both sides, or a thumbturn inside?
Cylinder outside, thumbturn inside. The DBX61 is a single cylinder deadbolt, so someone inside throws and retracts the bolt by hand with no key in their pocket. For an opening that needs a key on both faces, such as a door with glazing next to the lock, go to a double cylinder unit: the Dexter DB2000 double cylinder is Grade 2 and covers the same 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Hager 3214 is another Grade 2 double cylinder. Local egress code governs where a double cylinder is allowed.
7) I need a deadbolt keyed outside with a blank plate inside, no turn. Is the Arrow DBX61 that lock?
No. The DBX61 is cylinder by thumbturn, so there is always a turn on the inside face and anyone inside can retract the bolt. For cylinder by blank, look at the Corbin Russwin DL3011, a Grade 1 cylindrical deadlock in that configuration for 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inch doors, or the DL3211, the same cylinder by blank arrangement built for 1-3/4 inch doors.
8) What is a direct equivalent to the Arrow DBX61 single cylinder deadbolt from another manufacturer?
The Arrow DBX61 is a Grade 2 deadbolt with a cylinder x thumbturn function, a 1 inch throw steel bolt, and a backset that adjusts from 2-3/8 inches to 2-3/4 inches, fitting doors 1-3/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches with the standard cylinder. The closest peers by those same measures are the Hager 3215, a Grade 2 commercial single cylinder deadbolt with a 1 inch throw for doors 1-3/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches thick, and the Dexter DB2000-SCT, a Grade 2 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt covering the same 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door range. The Cal-Royal CB160 is likewise a Grade 2 single cylinder cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt and carries a tamper-resistant cylinder guard.
9) Which single cylinder deadbolt steps up to Grade 1 for a heavier commercial entrance?
The Arrow DBX61 is a Grade 2 deadbolt. For a Grade 1 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt, the Falcon D111 is Grade 1 heavy duty with an adjustable backset; the Dexter DB1000-SCT is a Grade 1 single cylinder deadbolt covering doors 1-3/8 inches to 1-7/8 inches; the Accentra D111 is Grade 1 with a fixed 2-3/8 inch backset for doors 1-3/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches; and the Deltana CL200LM is a Grade 1 single cylinder cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt. The Delaney LM Series 301702 is a Grade 1 single cylinder deadbolt supplied less core in dull chrome US26D.
10) I need a deadbolt keyed from both sides instead of a thumbturn. What replaces the Arrow DBX61?
The Arrow DBX61 is a cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt, keyed outside with a turn inside. For key on both sides at the same Grade 2, the Hager 3214 is a Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway for doors 1-3/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches, the Dexter DB2000-DCT is a Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt over the same 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch range, and the Delaney LU Series 320601 is a Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt in stainless steel US32D. Stepping up, the Design Hardware D1 Series is a Grade 1 extra heavy duty double cylinder deadbolt for 1-3/4 inch doors. Confirm double cylinder is permitted for the egress classification of the opening before ordering.
11) What deadbolt fits a door thicker than 1-3/4 inches?
The Arrow DBX61 covers 1-3/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches with the standard cylinder unit, and the SFIC unit extends that to 1-3/8 inches through 2 inches. For doors past 2 inches, the Corbin Russwin DL3011 is a Grade 1 cylindrical deadlock rated for 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors. The Deltana 7312KA2 is a Grade 3 double cylinder deadbolt covering 1-3/8 inches to 2 inches. Measure the leaf at the bore, since a solid core leaf and a fire door leaf in the same frame can differ.
12) Which deadbolts can be keyed into an existing Schlage C master key system?
The Arrow DBX61 comes in a CS conventional cylinder with the Schlage C keyway, which is the standard keyway on the line, so it drops into an existing Schlage C system. Among peers, the Hager 3115 is a Grade 2 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway, the Hager 3214 is the Grade 2 double cylinder version with the same keyway, and the Hager 3118 is a Grade 1 classroom deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway and a 6 pin cylinder. The Dormakaba D900 is a small case mortise deadbolt keyed different with SC keyways, though it needs a mortise pocket rather than a bored prep.
13) Which deadbolt should I specify when the opening requires a fire rating?
The Arrow DBX61 is a Grade 2 commercial deadbolt with a 1 inch throw and an adjustable 2-3/8 inch to 2-3/4 inch backset. When the drawing calls out a fire rating, the Hager 3215 single cylinder and Hager 3115 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolts both carry a fire rating and cover doors 1-3/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches, as does the Hager 3214 in double cylinder. For a Grade 1 heavy duty option, the Cal-Royal CRB800 is a single cylinder deadbolt with a UL 3-hour fire rated latch.
14) Are the Emtek 2050 or Dormakaba D900 deadbolts drop-in replacements for an Arrow DBX61?
No, they take a different door prep. The Arrow DBX61 is a bored deadbolt with a 2-3/8 inch to 2-3/4 inch adjustable backset and a 2-1/4 inch by 1 inch bolt front. The Emtek 2050 and 2051 are European mortise deadbolts with an integrated roller latch, the Dormakaba D900 is a small case mortise deadbolt, and the DynaLock 1300 Series is a mortise electric deadbolt. Each of those requires a mortise pocket cut into the door edge, not the cross bore and edge bore the DBX61 uses.
15) Will a Corbin Russwin DL3211 or DL2211 give me the inside thumbturn the Arrow DBX61 has?
No. The Corbin Russwin DL3211 and DL2211 are Grade 1 cylindrical deadlocks configured cylinder x blank, meaning a key cylinder on one side and a blank plate on the other with nothing to operate the bolt from inside. The Callan Model 205S is similar in effect, a Grade 3 one sided half-bore deadbolt. The Arrow DBX61 is a cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt, keyed outside with a turn inside, so if occupants need to throw or retract the bolt from the inside without a key, the cylinder x blank models are not an exchange.
16) I am replacing deadbolts across a building and the existing backsets are mixed. Which ones cover both 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inches?
The Arrow DBX61 adjusts from 2-3/8 inches to 2-3/4 inches, so one part number covers both preps. Among peers, the Falcon D111 is a Grade 1 heavy duty deadbolt with an adjustable backset, the Cal-Royal ED500 is a Grade 3 deadbolt with an adjustable backset, and the Brinks Raleigh E2401 and Mendocino E2402 both use a 4 way adjustable backset. Fixed-backset models need the prep confirmed first: the Accentra D111 is built at 2-3/8 inches and the Deltana CL200LA at 2-3/4 inches.
17) Is a Grade 2 deadbolt like the Arrow DBX61 enough for an apartment or office entry, or should I be buying Grade 1?
The DBX61 is a Grade 2 commercial deadbolt, which suits unit doors, common area doors and back-of-house openings that see normal traffic. Where the drawing calls out Grade 1, or the door is a main entrance cycling all day, move up a tier: the Accentra D111 is a Grade 1 cylinder by thumbturn deadbolt for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, the Dexter DB1000 single cylinder is Grade 1 across 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 inch doors, and the Delaney LM Series is a Grade 1 single cylinder that ships less core for SFIC houses.
18) How well does the Arrow DBX61 hold up against someone attacking the bolt on an exterior door?
The bolt is steel with a 1 inch (25mm) throw and carries a hardened, free spinning steel pin insert, which is the feature that stops a hacksaw blade from cutting through the bolt while it is in the frame. The lock is graded Grade 2 for commercial use. What the DBX61 does not add is a guard over the outside cylinder, so on an exposed door in a vandalism-prone spot the Cal-Royal CB160, a Grade 2 single cylinder deadbolt with a tamper resistant cylinder guard, is worth comparing.
19) If I order the SFIC version of the Arrow DBX61, what else do I have to buy to finish the job?
Cores and keys. The IC version is supplied less cores, so you provide 6 or 7 pin small format cores, Best or Falcon type, and cut the keys on your own system. The conventional AR and CS versions need nothing extra: they arrive as a complete keyed lock with two nickel plated brass keys, and the strike and the plastic mortise spacer are in the box.
20) Is there a simpler deadbolt for low traffic interior or residential doors?
The Arrow DBX61 is a Grade 2 deadbolt built for commercial use. For lighter openings, the Cal-Royal ED500 is a Grade 3 single cylinder deadbolt with an adjustable backset covering doors 1-3/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches, the Cal-Royal LSD is a Grade 3 single cylinder deadbolt over the same door range, and the Callan Model 200S is a Grade 3 single cylinder deadbolt with square trim. All are cylinder x thumbturn, the same operation as the DBX61.
21) Which deadbolt has an accessible thumbturn for a resident who cannot grip a standard turn?
The Arrow DBX61 uses a conventional cylinder x thumbturn arrangement. The Cal-Royal LSD is a Grade 3 single cylinder deadbolt with an ADA ergonomic thumbturn, fitting doors 1-3/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches, which is the same door thickness range the DBX61 covers with its standard cylinder unit.
22) Is the BEST 8T or the Baldwin 8BR0618001 an alternative to a complete deadbolt?
Neither one is a complete lock. The BEST 8T is a T Series tubular deadbolt tube component, the bolt assembly on its own, and the Baldwin 8BR0618001 is a deadbolt spacer. The Arrow DBX61 ships as a finished single cylinder deadbolt with a solid brass cylinder drilled for 6 pins, a 1 inch throw steel bolt with a hardened free spinning steel pin insert, a steel strike, and two nickel plated brass keys per keyed lock.
23) The door has no deadbolt bore and I do not want to drill it. What can I use instead?
The Arrow DBX61 needs a bored prep, with the backset set between 2-3/8 inches and 2-3/4 inches and a 2-1/4 inch by 1 inch bolt front mortised into the door edge. Where cutting the leaf is not an option, the Codelocks CL200 is a light duty surface deadbolt with key override that mounts to the face of the door, and the Codelocks CL2200 is a medium duty electronic surface deadbolt in a brushed steel finish.
24) Is there a keypad or credential-operated deadbolt instead of a keyed one for units that turn over often?
The Arrow DBX61 is a keyed Grade 2 deadbolt supplied with two keys per keyed lock. If the goal is to stop rekeying between tenants, the Delaney KP400 is a Grade 2 electronic deadbolt with a programmable remote, the Codelocks CL2210 is an electronic mortise deadbolt, and Dormakaba offers the Saffire LX-D RFID electronic deadbolt with Bluetooth and electronic lock override plus the Nova-D RFID multihousing smart electronic deadbolt.
25) Can I get the Arrow DBX61 in satin stainless to match the rest of the hardware on my doors?
630 satin stainless steel is one of three finishes offered, alongside 605 bright brass and 613E dark oxidized satin bronze equivalent. Each of those finishes is available with any of the three cylinder choices, Arrow keyway, Schlage C keyway, or SFIC less core, so a property can be standardized on one finish while the keying varies door to door.
26) Which Grade 2 deadbolts come in a square or contemporary trim rather than a round low profile escutcheon?
The Arrow DBX61 is a low profile Grade 2 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt offered in bright brass 605, dark oxidized satin bronze equivalent 613E, and satin stainless steel 630. For a different trim shape at the same Grade 2 and the same cylinder x thumbturn operation, the Bravura 310SC Elite is a contemporary square deadbolt, the 310RC Elite is a contemporary round, the 310B Elite is a traditional round, and Bravura also builds a Grade 2 rectangle single cylinder deadbolt. The Callan Model 200S-G2 is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadbolt with round trim.
