Ideal Industries B1-1 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Ideal B-CAP B1 yellow wire connector fit in a shallow old-work box?
That's exactly what the B1 is built around. The B-CAP B1 uses a space-saving, low profile shell intended for old work and shallow box applications where there isn't room to fold a taller connector back into the box. The slim classic fins still give you enough grip to twist it down in a tight or hard to reach location.
2) How many connectors come in a box of Ideal B-CAP B1 yellow?
100 connectors per box, all Model B1 yellow. That bulk pack is the usual way contractors buy these for a full rough-in or a multi-unit retrofit rather than restocking from small bags.
3) What part number do I order for the Ideal yellow B-CAP connector?
Ideal Industries B1-1 is the part number, and it covers the Model B1 yellow B-CAP twist-on wire connector in the 100 count box. If you're matching to an existing order or a spec sheet, B1-1 is the number to quote.
4) Does the yellow color on a B-CAP connector mean anything, or is it just cosmetic?
It identifies the connector, not just the look. B-CAP connectors are color coded so the model, and the wire combinations it is rated for, can be read at a glance on the job and during inspection. Yellow is Model B1. If you're standardizing a crew or a building, keep the color to model pairing consistent so anyone opening a box later knows what they're grabbing.
5) Are Ideal B-CAP B1 connectors suitable for commercial and MRO work, or just residential?
Both. The B1 B-CAP is used in residential rough-in, commercial building wiring, retrofit and renovation work, and maintenance and repair operations. Property maintenance teams tend to keep the 100 count box on the truck because the low profile shell handles the old shallow boxes found in older buildings.
6) Why pick a B-CAP twist-on connector over a push-in or lever connector in a crowded box?
A twist-on like the B-CAP B1 collapses onto the conductors and takes up only its own shell, and this one is a deliberately low profile shell for old work and shallow boxes. Push-in and lever style connectors are longer in one axis, which is what fights you when the box is already full of conductors. The tradeoff is that twist-ons need the conductor ends trimmed even and twisted down, where a push-in just needs a stripped end.
