1) Is the B-Line BQL15 a bolt-on or plug-in breaker?
Bolt-on. The BQL15 fastens to the panel bus with a screw rather than snapping onto a stab, so it only goes into a panel with bolt-on provisions. If your panelboard interior is set up for plug-in breakers, this one will not mount. Check the interior before ordering, because the two styles are not interchangeable in the same space.
2) What wire sizes can I land on a BQL15 breaker, and can I use aluminum conductors?
The lug on the BQL15 takes #14 through #8 AWG and is rated Cu/Al, so either copper or aluminum conductors are acceptable. For a 15 amp circuit you are normally on #14 copper, and the range up to #8 gives you room for a voltage-drop upsize on a long home run without changing breakers.
3) Can I use the B-Line BQL15 on a 240V circuit?
It is rated 120/240 V, but it is a single-pole breaker, so it protects one hot leg only. That makes it a 120 V branch circuit device in a standard single-phase panel. For a two-wire 240 V load, such as a baseboard heater, you need two poles ganged, not one.
4) Is this breaker OK to feed an air conditioner or heat pump?
It is HACR rated, which means it is acceptable as the branch circuit protective device for heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment where the nameplate calls for an HACR type breaker. Still size it to the equipment nameplate maximum overcurrent protection, not to the load amps.
5) Does the B-Line BQL15 provide GFCI or AFCI protection?
No. The BQL15 is a plain thermal-magnetic style replacement breaker providing overcurrent protection only. Bedroom, kitchen, laundry and similar circuits that code requires to be arc-fault or ground-fault protected need an AFCI/GFCI breaker or a protected receptacle instead.
