B-LINE BA-2-16-7-BN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the B-Line BA-2-16-7-BN fastener work on a 15/16 inch T-bar grid?
Yes. The BA-2-16-7-BN is a twist fastener sized for 15/16 inch acoustical tee and t-bar grid. It twists onto the exposed face of the tee, so the grid flange has to be the standard 15/16 inch width. On a narrow 9/16 inch tee or a slotted/bolt-slot grid profile, this one won't seat correctly and you need a fastener matched to that flange.
2) How much weight can a B-Line acoustical tee fastener hold?
Rated at 25 lbs. That covers the usual suspended-ceiling electrical work: small junction boxes, low-voltage devices, raceway drops, and light fixture whips. Anything heavier, including most full-size fixtures, needs to be carried on independent hanger wire to structure rather than off the grid fastener.
3) Is the B-Line BA-2-16-7-BN listed for electrical ceiling work?
It carries a cULus Listing, which is what an inspector or a facility spec typically wants to see on a grid-mounted electrical support in the US and Canada. It's catalogued as an electrical support fastener rather than a general-purpose clip.
4) What is the stud length on the B-Line 15/16 inch twist fastener?
The stud is 5/8 inch. That's the amount of threaded stud you have to work with above the tee, so check that whatever you're mounting, the box ear, bracket, or strap plus its nut, stacks up inside that 5/8 inch. Thick mounting plates can run you out of thread.
5) Do I still need hanger wire if I use these grid fasteners?
Yes for anything the grid isn't rated to carry on its own. The BA-2-16-7-BN twist fastener transfers its load, up to 25 lbs, into the ceiling tee itself, so the grid and its hangers take the weight. For heavier items, or where the local inspector requires independent support of electrical equipment in a suspended ceiling, run separate wire to structure. The fastener is the attachment point, not the support system.
6) Can I use these twist fasteners on drywall or a hard-lid ceiling?
No. This is a grid-only fastener, it twists onto the exposed flange of a 15/16 inch acoustical tee. There's nothing to grab on a drywall or plaster ceiling. For a hard lid you need a toggle, anchor, or a support rod to structure instead.
7) How many B-Line BA-2-16-7-BN fasteners come in a pack?
The BA-2-16-7-BN is a bulk-pack item, with each individual fastener weighing .025 lb. It ships as a single model number, so order by the pack rather than by the piece when you're stocking a ceiling job.
