B-LINE B427ZN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size threaded rod does the B-Line B427ZN beam clamp take?
The B427ZN beam clamp is tapped for 1/2 inch-13 threaded rod. That is the rod size you hang from it, so order 1/2-13 all-thread and matching nuts to complete the drop.
2) How thick a beam flange will this B-Line beam clamp fit?
It clamps onto flanges up to 2-1/2 inches thick, which covers most structural steel bottom flanges you will run into on a commercial job. If your flange is thicker than 2-1/2 inches, this clamp will not close on it.
3) Is this B-Line beam clamp UL listed for electrical support?
It is cULus Listed, so it is accepted for both US and Canadian installations supporting electrical raceway and equipment.
4) Is a zinc plated beam clamp OK for an outdoor or damp location?
The B427ZN is electro-plated zinc, which is a finish intended for dry indoor use. For exterior, wet, or corrosive environments, specify a hot dip galvanized or stainless beam clamp instead.
5) Does the B427ZN beam clamp come with the set screw, or do I order it separately?
The clamp is specified with a 1-1/2 inch set screw, which is the screw that bites into the beam flange and locks the clamp in place. What you still need to supply is the 1/2-13 threaded rod, nuts, and whatever hanger or strap picks up the load below.
6) What are the two 9/16 inch holes on this beam clamp for?
The clamp body carries two 9/16 inch diameter holes, which give you a bolt-through or wire/attachment point beyond the tapped 1/2-13 rod connection. Useful when you need to pick up a second support or fasten directly rather than hang rod.
7) How much room does this beam clamp need under the beam?
The clamp measures 2.875 in height, 2 in length/depth, and 1.5 in width, and weighs .92 lb. Allow for the 2.875 inch dimension plus rod and nut when you are working to a tight ceiling clearance.
