B-LINE B305ZN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How much weight can the B305ZN beam clamp hold?
Rated 600 lb load capacity, with a safety factor of 5 built into that rating. That covers typical conduit runs, small trapeze hangers, and lighting drops. For heavier mechanical loads, size up rather than doubling clamps on guesswork.
2) Is the B-Line B305ZN beam clamp UL listed for electrical support?
Yes, it is cULus Listed, so it carries both the US and Canadian listing marks. That is what an inspector looks for when the clamp is supporting conduit or a luminaire in a commercial or institutional building.
3) Will a zinc plated beam clamp hold up outdoors or in a parking garage?
The B305ZN is steel with an electro-plated zinc finish. That is a dry indoor finish, fine for interior building steel, plenum, and mechanical rooms. For exterior, wash-down, coastal, or heavy condensation areas, specify a hot dip galvanized or stainless clamp instead.
4) Does the beam clamp come with the set screw, or do I order that separately?
The set screw ships with the clamp, and it is a 3/8 inch screw. Nothing else is included, so plan on supplying the 3/8-16 threaded rod, nuts, and whatever hanger or strut fitting lands on the bottom end.
5) Can I use a beam clamp instead of drilling the structural steel for conduit hangers?
That is exactly what it is for. A beam clamp like the B305ZN grips the flange edge with a set screw, so no drilling, welding, or coring of the structure. Where you have no exposed flange to grab, such as a concrete deck or a cast slab, you go to an anchor or concrete insert instead.
6) How much clearance do I need around the beam for this clamp?
The B305ZN measures 2.3125 in height, 2.5 in length/depth, and .467 in width, and weighs .72 lb. Those are the numbers to check against tight bar joist webs or a crowded flange where ductwork or another trade is already hung.
