B-LINE B3050-5X6PLN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size threaded rod does the B-Line B3050-5X6PLN beam clamp take?
The B3050-5X6PLN takes 3/4"-10 threaded rod. That's the only rod size this model accepts, so if your trapeze or hanger assembly runs 1/2"-13 or 3/8"-16 rod, you need a different clamp in the series rather than this one.
2) Will this beam clamp fit the flange on my I-beam?
This B-Line clamp is sized for a 1 inch beam flange width. Measure the flange thickness at the edge where the clamp will bite: if it runs thicker than 1 inch, this model will not close on it and you need a wider-opening clamp. It is made to hang a rod off the bottom flange of a structural I-beam.
3) How much weight can the B-Line B3050 beam clamp hold?
Rated at 3000 lb load capacity. That covers heavy trapeze runs, large conduit banks, and suspended equipment, but the rating applies to the clamp only. Your 3/4"-10 rod, the beam itself, and the connection at the load end all have to carry the same load, and the lowest-rated item in that chain is your real limit.
4) Is this beam clamp UL listed for electrical support?
It is cULus Listed, so it carries both the US and Canadian listings. That matters on inspected commercial and institutional jobs where conduit and cable tray supports have to be listed hardware, and it means the same part number works on either side of the border.
5) What is this beam clamp made of, and can I use it outdoors or in a damp area?
Plain steel, with no plating or coating called out. Plain steel is fine for dry interior structural steel, but in an exterior, wash-down, or humid environment it will rust at the contact points. For those conditions choose an electro-galvanized or hot dip galvanized version of the same clamp instead of the plain finish.
6) Do I need to drill or weld the beam to hang rod from it?
No. The B3050 is a mechanical beam clamp, so it grips the flange and gives you a 3/4"-10 rod connection with no drilling, welding, or hot work on the structural steel. That keeps you off a hot work permit and leaves the beam intact, which is usually what the structural engineer wants.
7) Does the beam clamp come with the threaded rod and nuts?
You get the clamp only. The 3/4"-10 all-thread rod, the nuts and washers at both ends, and whatever you are hanging at the bottom (strut, trapeze, pipe clamp, tray hanger) are all ordered separately. Plan a rod length per drop plus enough thread engagement at each end.
8) How much room do I need around the beam to install this clamp?
The clamp measures 3 in height, 6 in length/depth and .875 in width, and weighs 1.43 lb. Check the 6 inch dimension against your clearance: on tight ceiling cavities or where beams sit close to deck, that reach is what decides whether you can get the clamp on and turn the set screw.
