B-LINE DK24SS – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What enclosure size does the Eaton B-Line DK24SS drip shield kit fit?
The DK24SS drip shield is sized for enclosures 24 inches wide. Its own footprint is 24 inches wide by 24 inches in length/depth, standing 1.442 inches high, so it caps a 24 inch wide box and sheds water off the top. If your enclosure is a different width, this is not the right kit.
2) Is the B-Line DK24SS drip shield rated for outdoor or washdown areas?
It carries a NEMA 4X degree of protection and is UL Listed, and it is used to protect from water and dust. The 4X rating is what makes it suitable where hosedown or corrosive wetness is a concern, which is also why the shield itself is stainless steel rather than painted carbon steel.
3) What material and gauge is the DK24SS drip shield, and will it hold up in a corrosive plant environment?
Stainless steel, 14 gauge. That is the reason it gets specified in wash areas, food plants and coastal or chemical exposure where a painted shield would rust out at the fastener holes.
4) Do I need a drip shield if my enclosure is already NEMA 4X?
The enclosure rating covers the seal; the shield covers the day to day reality. On a wall mounted box, a DK24SS diverts running water and grit off the top and away from the door gasket and latch line, which is where wear and leaks start on outdoor and washdown installations. It is protection against water and dust, not a substitute for the box rating.
5) What is the part number and weight of the 24 inch B-Line stainless drip shield kit?
Order it as Eaton B-Line DK24SS. It weighs 2.528 lb, light enough for one person to hold in place while starting the bolts on an already mounted enclosure.
