B-Line Eaton series cable support fasteners, #8 X 1/2", Self-drilling sheet metal screw

No pilot hole needed. The BWHS-9 is a self-drilling sheet metal screw, so the point cuts its own hole as you drive it into the sheet metal. That is the whole reason it gets used for hanging cable support hardware off metal studs, decking, and enclosures, one tool and one pass.

It is a #8 x 1/2 inch screw. With only 1/2 inch of overall length, the usable grip is short, so it is meant for attaching support hardware to thin sheet metal, studs, strut, and enclosure walls, not for building up through thick stacked material or into wood framing. If the hardware you are fastening is thick enough to eat most of that 1/2 inch, step up to a longer screw.

It is cULus Listed, which covers it for both US and Canadian electrical work. That matters if you are an institutional or MRO buyer whose inspector wants listed components on the cable support system, not just any hardware-store screw.

The BWHS-9 is steel. Nothing in the specs identifies a corrosion-resistant coating or stainless construction, so treat it as an indoor, dry-location fastener. For wet, washdown, or exterior runs, specify a stainless or hot-dip galvanized fastener instead.

The screw measures .56 inch across its widest point, with a height and length-depth of .25 inch each on the spec sheet. That .56 inch figure is the bearing footprint you get against the part you are fastening, so if the slot or hole in your cable support bracket is wider than that, add a washer to keep the head from pulling through.

One configuration only. BWHS-9 is the manufacturer part number and there are no finish, length, or thread options to specify, so ordering is a straight quantity call. Buyers standardizing a building on one fastener can spec it by that single number.

Each screw is .004 lb, so a thousand of them comes to about 4 pounds. Useful if you are pricing out freight or planning how many go in a van stock kit for a multi-building cable support job.
