B-LINE FIG 1NFPA-5-EG – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I hang a sprinkler or pipe run off the side of a beam with this bracket instead of the bottom flange?
That is exactly what it is for. The FIG 1NFPA-5-EG is a side beam bracket, used to attach the hanger rod to the side of a beam or to a wall rather than under a bottom flange. It suits NFPA rod and fastener sizing, so it fits the rod-size rules a fire protection or electrical installer works to.
2) Is the B-Line 1NFPA side beam bracket UL Listed?
Yes. The FIG 1NFPA-5-EG carries a UL Listing, which is what a facility or MRO buyer needs when the support has to be a listed component on a sprinkler or code-inspected run.
3) Will an electro-galvanized side beam bracket hold up in a damp mechanical room or is stainless needed?
The bracket is steel with an electro-plated (electro-galvanized) finish. That coating handles dry interior and normal mechanical-room conditions. For sustained wet service, exterior exposure, or a corrosive process area, specify a hot-dip galvanized or stainless support instead.
4) Does the B-Line 1NFPA bracket come with the rod, nuts, or the beam fastener?
No. What you get is the side beam bracket itself. The 3/8-16 threaded rod, the nuts, the pipe hanger at the other end, and the fastener into the beam or wall are all ordered separately. Match the fastener to your substrate: through-bolt or beam clamp for steel, a rated anchor for concrete or masonry.
5) What does Type 1 mean on this B-Line hanger?
Type 1 is the classification B-Line assigns this support fitting, and it is how the part is identified on a submittal or a bill of material. When an engineer's drawing calls out a Type 1 side beam bracket for 5 to 6 inch pipe on 3/8 inch rod, FIG 1NFPA-5-EG is the part that answers it.
