B-LINE B3100C-1PLN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What pipe size does the B-Line B3100C-1PLN clevis hanger fit?
The B3100C-1PLN Slide Rite clevis hanger is sized for 1 inch pipe, with a 1 inch nominal diameter opening. Larger pipe needs a larger part number in the B3100C range; this one will not close around anything over 1 inch.
2) What threaded rod size does this B-Line clevis hanger take?
It takes 3/8-16 threaded rod. That is the rod you run to the structure, and the cross bolt nut sets the pipe elevation once the rod is hung.
3) Is the plain finish on this clevis hanger OK for outdoor or damp locations?
Plain is bare steel with no protective coating, so it is meant for dry interior overhead runs. For exterior, mechanical rooms with condensation, or corrosive environments, specify an electro-galvanized or hot dip galvanized version of the B3100C instead.
4) Is the B-Line B3100C clevis hanger UL listed for electrical support work?
It carries a cUL Listing. That is the piece an inspector or spec writer usually wants confirmed when the hanger is supporting conduit or pipe overhead in a commercial building.
5) What does Type 1 mean on this B-Line clevis hanger?
Type 1 is the standard pipe hanger designation for an adjustable clevis, the two piece strap and top yoke arrangement adjusted by the nut on the rod. If your drawing calls out a Type 1 adjustable clevis hanger, this is that component in 1 inch pipe size.
6) How much vertical space does a 1 inch clevis hanger need below the structure?
The hanger body itself is 2.875 inches high, measured before you add rod length. Plan your drop so the pipe centerline lands where you need it once that 2-7/8 inches of hanger is accounted for, plus the nut and any insulation shield.
7) Why is it called a Slide Rite clevis hanger?
Slide Rite is B-Line's design where the bolt hole is aligned so the bolt drops straight through when you are working overhead, one handed, off a ladder. It saves fishing for the second strap hole on a long run of hangers.
