This frame supports terminal blocks for central cross connects, with equipment mounted on both faces. Double sided is what you want for a central office style main or intermediate distribution frame sitting free in the middle of a room, where technicians work both sides and you want the jumper field density. If the frame has to go against a wall, a single sided frame is the right call, because half of a double sided frame becomes inaccessible.

The frame is ASTM A36 structural steel with a Telco gray powder coat. A36 is a standard structural carbon steel, so the powder coat is what is doing the corrosion work here. It is fine for conditioned or lightly conditioned telecom and equipment rooms, but a damp, unheated space or anywhere with salt exposure will eventually attack it at cut edges and fastener points.
