B-LINE KFG100 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Eaton B-Line KFG100 filter fan rated for outdoor or washdown enclosures?
No. The KFG100 fan grille assembly carries a NEMA 1 rating, which is indoor, general purpose protection against incidental contact and falling dirt only. It has no seal against water, dust, oil, or corrosive washdown. If the enclosure sits outdoors, in a wet process area, or anywhere subject to hosedown, a NEMA 1 fan package will compromise the enclosure rating and you need a fan and filter kit matched to that enclosure type instead.
2) What size cutout do I need in the enclosure door for the KFG100 fan grille?
Published dimensions for the KFG100 assembly are 11.63 in height, 13 in length/depth and 2.12 in width, with the 2.12 in figure being the shallow dimension that sits proud of or behind the panel. Lay the unit out against those numbers when you mark the door, and keep clear of internal DIN rail, wireway and door-mounted devices that would foul an 11.63 by 13 in footprint.
3) Should I use a filter fan like the KFG100 or a closed loop air conditioner on my control panel?
A filter fan such as the KFG100 moves ambient room air through the enclosure and filters it, so it only works when the surrounding air is cooler than your target internal temperature and clean enough that a NEMA 1 opening is acceptable. It cannot cool below ambient. If the panel is in a hot area, needs to stay sealed, or the room air carries dust, oil mist or moisture, a filter fan is the wrong tool and you want a sealed enclosure air conditioner or heat exchanger instead.
4) Does the B-Line KFG100 come with a filter, or do I have to order one separately?
The filter is included with the KFG100 grille assembly, so you are not chasing a separate filter part to complete the install. Plan on replacement filter media as a recurring MRO item once it is in service, since the filter is the wear part in any enclosure fan package.
5) Will the B-Line KFG100 match the finish on my existing gray industrial enclosures?
It is finished in ANSI 61 gray paint, the standard gray used across most industrial control enclosures and B-Line enclosure accessories, so it blends with an existing ANSI 61 lineup rather than standing out as a mismatched panel accessory. Body material is stainless steel under the paint.
6) Is the B-Line KFG100 filter fan UL Listed?
Yes, the KFG100 is UL Listed. For institutional and government panel work where the specification calls for listed components on the enclosure, that listing is the item the inspector looks for.
7) Do I need a second grille as an exhaust when I install a KFG100?
Yes, in practice. A fan grille assembly pushes air into the enclosure, and that air has to leave somewhere. Standard practice is a matching exit grille placed diagonally opposite, typically fan low and exhaust high, so air sweeps across the components rather than short-cycling. Order the KFG100 plus an exhaust grille of the same NEMA 1 family to finish the job.
8) Why is the KFG100 stainless steel instead of plain painted steel?
The grille body is stainless steel with an ANSI 61 gray paint finish over it. Stainless gives you a base material that will not rust out from the inside if the paint gets scratched during install or if the panel lives in a humid plant, which matters on a part that has constant air moving across it. The NEMA 1 rating still governs where it can be used: indoor, dry locations.
9) Can one person mount the KFG100 on an enclosure door without help?
At 5 lb it is a one-hand hold once the cutout is made, so a single tech can set it and start the fasteners. The external hinge style means the grille swings open for filter changes without pulling the assembly off the door, which is what you want when the panel is live and you only need to service the media.
