B-LINE SB744M2315AL – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How much gear can the B-Line SB744M2315AL keyboard shelf hold?
The Eaton B-Line keyboard shelf with sliding drawer and mouse tray is rated for a 200 lb load capacity, so a monitor, KVM, or a stack of test gear sitting on the fixed shelf is well within range. The shelf assembly itself weighs 21.3 lb.
2) What are the dimensions of the SB744M2315AL shelf and keyboard drawer?
It measures 23 in wide, 15 in deep, and 4.75 in high. The 15 in depth is the figure to check against your open frame rack: on a two-post open rack the shelf cantilevers off the front rails, so make sure you have 15 in of clear projection behind the posts before anything mounted behind it.
3) Is the B-Line SB744M2315AL a fixed shelf or a pull-out keyboard tray?
Both. It is a combination unit: a fixed shelf with a sliding keyboard drawer underneath, and the drawer includes a mouse tray. If you only need a flat surface for a switch or patch gear, a plain fixed shelf is the cheaper part number to specify. Order this one when a technician needs a keyboard and mouse at the rack.
4) Will a 23 inch wide rack shelf fit a standard 19 inch equipment rack?
Yes. A 19 in rack has mounting rails spaced so the overall panel width is 19 in, and B-Line open frame racks are 19 in EIA. The 23 in figure on this unit is the shelf's overall width including the mounting flanges, which is normal for an open rack shelf. Plan on 4.75 in of vertical space for it.
5) What material and finish is the Eaton B-Line rack keyboard shelf?
Aluminum, in a brushed finish. Aluminum keeps the weight down to 21.3 lb for a 200 lb rated shelf, which matters when you are hanging it off a two-post open frame rack rather than a four-post cabinet. The brushed aluminum look will not match black powder coat racks, so if your room is standardized on black, expect a visible difference.
