B-LINE SB81323UT6SL – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Eaton B-Line SB81323UT6SL transition tray mount in a standard 19-inch open frame relay rack?
The tray measures 23 inches wide, which is the standard overall width of a 19-inch EIA rack panel including the mounting flanges, so it mounts across the rack's front rails the same way a 19-inch panel does. It is a rack mounted horizontal transition tray, not a free-standing shelf, so you need open rack rails to hang it from.
2) How much rack space does the B-Line SB81323UT6SL horizontal tray take up?
It is 1.5 inches high, which is one rack unit (1U) of vertical space, and it projects 6 inches deep off the rails. Budget one U between patch panels or switches when you lay out the rack elevation.
3) What is this horizontal tray actually for in a data rack?
It is a transition tray for patchcords and jumpers, meant to carry the slack between patch panels and active equipment so cords are not draped across the rack face. Both the top and bottom of the tray offer adjustable cable support, so you can route one bundle over and another under the same 1U tray.
4) Is the SB81323UT6SL tray aluminum or steel, and will the finish match a silver open frame rack?
Aluminum construction with a silver powder coat finish, which matches Eaton B-Line series open frame racks in the aluminum/silver finish. If your racks are black, this tray will read as a different color on the rack face.
5) Can I use this tray for vertical cable management up the side of the rack?
No. This is a horizontal transition tray that mounts across the rack rails and occupies 1.5 inches of rack height. For runback up the side of an open frame you want vertical cable managers or finger ducts instead.
6) Does the B-Line SB81323UT6SL come with rack mounting screws?
The tray itself is what ships under part number SB81323UT6SL. Plan on supplying rack mounting hardware to match your rails, 12-24 or 10-32 depending on the rack, since that thread varies by frame and is not part of the tray spec.
7) Is the tray light enough for one tech to mount, and does it add much load to the rack?
At 5 pounds it is a one-person install on an open rack. Weight is negligible against a relay rack's load rating, so stacking several between panels is not a structural concern.
