SH is B-Line's slotted hole pattern punched in the back of the channel, so you can through-bolt the strut to a wall, deck or structural member anywhere along the run without field drilling. The slots also give you some adjustment when your anchors do not land exactly on layout. If you want a solid unpunched back, order the plain B42 instead of the B42SH.

Pre-galvanized is the standard indoor and protected-area finish. The zinc is applied to the coil before roll forming, so the cut ends and punched slots are bare steel. That is fine for dry interior runs, mechanical rooms and above ceilings. For exterior, rooftop, wash-down or corrosive areas, step up to hot-dip galvanized or stainless strut, where the coating covers the cut edges.

That is exactly what the B42 profile is for. At 1 inch tall it projects half as far off the wall or deck as the deep 1-5/8 inch channel, so it fits tight shaft walls, low plenums and furred-out spaces where the standard strut will not clear. The trade-off is span: for long unsupported runs or heavy trapeze work, use the deeper channel instead.

Order B-Line part number B42SH-120GLV. Read it as B42 channel profile, SH slotted back pattern, 120 inch length, GLV pre-galvanized finish. If you drop the SH you get the unpunched back, and if you drop the 42 you are into a different channel depth, so the whole designation matters when matching an existing run.
