B-LINE B42-120SS6 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the B-Line B42 strut channel stainless or just coated steel?
The B42-120SS6 is type 316 stainless steel, not a painted or plated carbon channel. Type 316 is the marine and chemical grade, so it holds up in coastal air, wash-down areas, wastewater plants and roof-mounted runs where a galvanized channel would eventually bleed rust. If your job only sees dry indoor conditions, you are paying for corrosion resistance you will not use.
2) What is the part number for the 10 foot B-Line B42 stainless strut channel?
Order it as B-Line (Eaton) B42-120SS6. The 120 is the 120 inch length and SS6 designates the type 316 stainless material, which is what separates it from the plain steel and galvanized versions of the same B42 profile.
3) How much does a 10 foot stick of B-Line B42 stainless strut weigh?
14.68 lb per 120 inch length. That matters two ways: one person can carry and set a stick overhead without a lift, and you can total the dead load when you are sizing anchors for a ceiling trapeze run.
4) Can the B42 strut channel be cut to length on site?
Yes, it ships as a 120 inch stick and is meant to be cut to suit. Cut 316 stainless with an abrasive chop saw or bandsaw blade kept for stainless only, and deburr the ends. Do not cut it with a wheel that has been used on carbon steel, because the embedded carbon particles will rust on the stainless surface and defeat the reason you specified 316 in the first place.
