Yellow zinc chromate over steel is a coating for dry indoor service, mechanical rooms, ceiling spaces and the like. For exterior runs, wash-down areas or corrosive environments, step up to a hot-dip galvanized or stainless channel nut instead of this one.

A spring nut like the N524YZN carries a spring on the back that holds it in position inside the strut channel once you turn it into the lips, so it stays put while you thread the rod in and you can work one-handed overhead. A plain channel nut has no spring and will drop or slide in the channel until the bolt is tightened.
