1) Why would I use fiberglass strut instead of steel strut?
Material is the whole point here. The BFP22-240 channel is molded polyester resin, not metal, so it is non-conductive and does not rust. That makes it the choice for wet, washdown, coastal, water treatment and chemical areas where galvanized or painted steel strut corrodes, and for electrical work where you want a non-metallic support. Where you need maximum load capacity on long spans, steel channel is the stronger option.
2) How heavy is a 20 foot stick of BFP22-240 fiberglass channel to handle on site?
12.6 lb per 240 in stick. That is light enough for one person to carry and set overhead without a lift, which is a large part of why crews pick fiberglass channel for ceiling and rack runs in plants.
3) Can the BFP22-240 fiberglass strut be cut to length on the job?
Yes. It ships as a full 240 in length and is cut down on site to suit the run. Polyester resin fiberglass cuts with standard saw blades, and because the material is non-metallic the cut ends do not need galvanizing touch-up the way cut steel strut does.
4) Is the B-Line BFP22-240 channel grounded or does it need bonding?
It is not a metallic raceway support. The channel is polyester resin fiberglass, so it will not act as a grounding or bonding path. Any equipment grounding has to be carried by conductors, not through the support.
5) Do fittings and channel nuts come with the BFP22-240 fiberglass strut?
No. BFP22-240 is the bare 240 in channel only. Brackets, fiberglass fittings, channel nuts and hardware are ordered separately, so plan the fitting and fastener count with the run when you spec the sticks.
