B-LINE E47BMS04 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What kind of actuator does the E47BMS04 use, and what motion does it suit?
It uses an extended straight plunger, so the switch is actuated by direct in-line travel against the plunger tip. That suits a cam, slide, or machine member moving straight at the switch body rather than sweeping past it. If your target moves across the switch rather than into it, you want a roller lever or wobble stick style actuator instead.
2) Can I use this B-Line limit switch outdoors or in a washdown area?
No. The E47 precision limit switch is NEMA 1 rated, which is indoor general purpose only, protecting against incidental contact and falling dirt. It has no rating for water, dust, oil or washdown. For outdoor, wet, or hose-down duty you need a sealed switch with an enclosure rating such as NEMA 4 or 4X.
3) Does this limit switch give me both a normally open and a normally closed contact?
Yes. The E47BMS04 carries one SPDT (Form C) contact, so you get a common, a normally open and a normally closed terminal off the single switch. That lets you either make or break a circuit on actuation, or transfer between two circuits, without adding a second switch.
4) Will this switch hold up in an unheated warehouse or near a hot machine?
Operating temperature runs -13 to 176 degrees F (-25 to 80 degrees C), so an unheated space in most climates and a warm machine enclosure are both inside range. The body is mineral filled phenolic, which handles heat better than a plain thermoplastic case.
5) How is the E47BMS04 wired, and do I need a special connector?
Wiring is to screw terminals, so you land field wires directly on the switch with a screwdriver, no plug, pigtail or crimp connector required. Plan on a conduit or cable entry at the switch location since there is no factory lead attached.
6) What part number do I order for the extended plunger version of the B-Line E47 limit switch?
Order MPN E47BMS04. That is the E47 series precision switch with the extended straight plunger actuator, screw terminals, one SPDT contact and a NEMA 1 phenolic body.
7) Will this switch trip reliably on a very slow moving part?
Operating speed range is 0.01 mm/s up to 1 m/s, so it covers creeping travel on a slow actuator as well as fast machine motion. That wide low end is why it is called a precision switch, it does not need momentum to transfer the contact.
