Baldwin Estate 4425 1-1/2" Rectangle Raised Knob

It's cabinet hardware, not a door lockset. The 4425 is a 1-1/2 inch rectangle raised knob for cabinet doors and drawer fronts in Baldwin's Estate Series, and it ships with its mounting hardware. If you're replacing an entry or passage knob on a swinging door, this isn't the part.

Mounting hardware is included with the knob, so you're not sourcing screws separately for a standard cabinet front. On thicker doors, or on a front with a backplate stacked behind the knob, a longer machine screw may be needed than what comes in the bag.

Eight finishes: 003 Polished Brass PVD, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 044 Satin Brass PVD, 055 Polished Nickel PVD, 112 Venetian Bronze, 150 Satin Nickel, 190 Satin Black, and 260 Polished Chrome. The PVD finishes (003, 044, 055) are the ones to pick for a kitchen or bath where the hardware gets handled wet and often, since PVD holds its color rather than wearing through.

031 Non-Lacquered Brass is living brass, so it patinas with handling and will darken unevenly over the first year. That's the intended effect. If you want brass that stays bright and matches the day it went on, order 003 Polished Brass PVD or 044 Satin Brass PVD instead. Don't mix 031 and the PVD brasses on the same run of cabinets, they'll diverge.

Solid brass. The substrate on the 4425 is brass throughout, not a zinc casting with a brass coating, which is why it has weight in the hand and why it holds a finish rather than pitting where the plating wears. On the nickel finishes the plating is oxidized, hand relieved, and lacquered for an aged look.

The 4425 is classified residential, not commercial. For a hotel guest room casegood or a residential-grade multi-family unit that reads fine, but for high-traffic institutional millwork, a nurse station, a school casework run, you want hardware rated for that duty rather than an Estate Series residential knob.

The 4425 is part of the Estate Series, so its finishes are the same Baldwin finish system used across that collection and will read consistent with other Estate pieces in the same finish code. Match on the number, not the name: order 150 to sit next to 150. Where existing hardware is 031 non-lacquered brass that has already aged, a new 031 knob will start bright and take time to catch up.

No backplate is required. The 4425 mounts through a single bored hole with the included hardware and sits directly on the front. A backplate is only worth adding when you're covering an old escutcheon footprint or filling paint shadow left by previous hardware, and in that case plan on a longer screw than the one supplied.
