Baldwin Estate 4913 1-3/8" Oval Cabinet Knob

Five finishes: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 044 Satin Brass PVD, 055 Polished Nickel PVD, and 190 Satin Black. If you want a finish that will not change over time, the PVD options (044 and 055) are the ones to specify. Non-Lacquered Brass is a living finish and will patina with handling, which is intentional but not what you want if the kitchen has to match years from now.

The 4913 is part of Baldwin's Estate Series, so it shares that line's finish program. If the door hardware and pulls already on the job are Estate in, say, 055 Polished Nickel PVD, ordering the 4913 in 055 keeps the whole opening consistent. Match by the three-digit finish number rather than by finish name, since polished brass and satin brass PVD read very differently side by side.

Brass is the substrate on the 4913. The nickel finish is applied over brass rather than over a cast zinc body, which is why the edges of the oval stay crisp instead of softening the way plated die-cast knobs do.

Baldwin classes the Estate 4913 as residential. For single-family, condo, or high-end multi-family unit interiors it is the right category. For a commercial job with a hardware schedule calling out ANSI grades and cycle counts, specify commercial cabinet hardware instead, since no grade or cycle rating applies to this one.

An oval knob like the 4913 works on cabinet doors and on narrow drawers, and it installs with a single hole, which makes it far simpler on a retrofit than converting to a two-hole pull. On wide or heavy drawers most installers go to a pull instead, because two hands on a bar open a loaded drawer squarer than one hand on a center knob. The oval shape here gives more grip surface than a round knob of the same footprint, which helps on drawers you open constantly.
