Baldwin BAL-0424.003 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Baldwin 0424 emergency release trim keyed?
No. The 0424 is not a keyed product, so there is no cylinder and no keyway to match to a house key. The only key involved is the small emergency release key supplied with it, which is used to unlock the privacy function from the outside.
2) What finishes does the Baldwin 0424 Hollywood Hills backplate come in?
Fourteen finishes: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 050 Satin Brass and Black, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, 060 Satin Brass and Brown, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112 Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome, and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. Ordering by that number is the reliable way to match the other Baldwin trim already in the house.
3) Can I use the Baldwin 0424 Hollywood Hills trim on a commercial job?
Baldwin lists the 0424 as a residential product. For a commercial opening where the spec calls for a graded, code-compliant privacy or restroom lock, this is the wrong direction; pick a commercial mortise or cylindrical lock line instead. For homes, condos, and residential-style units in multi-family, it suits the application.
4) Does the Baldwin 0424 come with knobs or levers, or is it just the plate?
The 0424 is the backplate. It's part of the knob trim family for the Hollywood Hills design, so the knob or lever and the lock body are ordered separately and matched to the same finish number.
5) Will the 031 Non-Lacquered Brass finish stay bright, or does it change over time?
Non-lacquered brass (031) is living brass, it will patina with handling and time. If you want the brass look to stay consistent across a run of doors, order 003 Polished Brass or 044 Satin Brass instead. For a silver tone that holds up, 056 Satin Nickel is a PVD finish built over nickel-plated solid brass.
6) Will the Hollywood Hills 0424 plate look right next to more traditional Baldwin trim?
Baldwin describes the Hollywood Hills design as transitional, a two-level plate that mixes traditional and modern detailing. It reads comfortably alongside either, which is why property managers use it when refreshing a mix of older and newer openings in the same building.
