Baldwin 5138055RMR – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Baldwin 5138 lever with 5047 rose lock, or is it passage only?
The 5138 lever on the 5047 round rose is a passage set, with no privacy or locking function. Both levers retract the latch at all times, so use it on closets, hallways, pantries and laundry doors. For a bath or bedroom you need a privacy set instead.
2) What is the difference between the Pair, Half Pair and Pair (PINNED) options on the Baldwin 5138 lever?
A Pair gives you both levers and roses for one door. Half Pair is a single lever and rose, ordered left hand or right hand, which is what you buy when you only need one side or are replacing a damaged lever. Pair (PINNED) is the pinned-lever version of the full pair.
3) Do I need to buy a latch separately with the Baldwin 5138 passage lever?
No. The passage set ships with everything needed to install it on the door, latch and mounting hardware included.
4) Is the Imperial USA TH1100 Series lever a direct drop-in replacement for a Baldwin 5138 lever with 5047 rose?
Treat them as different products rather than interchangeable trim. The Baldwin 5138 lever with 5047 rose is a tubular set for the 2-1/8 inch standard door prep with a 2-3/8 inch backset, a 2.312 inch projection, and a round 5047 rose; the Imperial USA offering is the TH1100 Series lever handle in a left hand configuration. Rose diameter, spindle, and mounting pattern differ between lines, so if you are matching existing Baldwin trim on adjacent doors, stay with the 5138 and 5047 rose combination.
5) How far does the Baldwin 5138 lever stick out from the door face?
Projection is 2.312 inches off the door, with a 4 inch lever grip. Worth checking against a door that swings back toward a wall or a narrow hallway, and against any adjacent casing.
6) Is the Baldwin 5138 lever handed, or will one set work on either swing?
Reversible. The same set handles a left or right swinging door, so you do not need to specify handing when you buy a full pair.
7) What finishes does the Baldwin 5138 lever come in for matching other hardware in a house?
Fourteen finishes: Polished Brass, Non-Lacquered Brass, Vintage Brass, Satin Brass, Satin Brass and Black, Polished Nickel, Satin Nickel, Satin Brass and Brown, Graphite Nickel, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Venetian Bronze, Satin Black, Polished Chrome and Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. The Satin Nickel is nickel plated over solid brass as a PVD finish.
8) Is the Baldwin 5138 lever suitable for a commercial office or apartment corridor?
It is a residential tubular lever set with a contemporary look, so it suits homes and residential unit interiors. For commercial corridor and stairwell openings where a graded cylindrical lock is specified, this is not the part.
9) Which lever handle should I order if I need a specific hand rather than a reversible one?
If the job calls out a dedicated left hand handle, the Imperial USA TH1100 Series lever handle is supplied as a left hand unit. The Baldwin 5138 lever with 5047 rose takes a different approach: the lever is reversible, and it is also ordered as a Half Pair Left Hand, Half Pair Right Hand, Pair, or Pair (PINNED), so one-side-only replacements are available without changing product lines.
