Baldwin 6991003KN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Baldwin 6991 escutcheon work with a lever, or only a knob?
Knob only. The 6991 Barclay is machined cut for knob, so the plate's opening is sized for a knob rose and neck. If you're running levers, you need the lever-cut version of the escutcheon instead.
2) Does the Baldwin 6991 Barclay escutcheon have a hand, or can I use it on either a left or right door?
It's reversible, so one plate covers both left and right hand doors. You don't specify handing when you order it, and it can be moved between openings later without buying a different part.
3) What finish does the Baldwin Estate 6991 Barclay escutcheon come in?
One finish: 003 Polished Brass PVD. PVD is a vapor-deposited plating, so if you're matching it against older lacquered polished brass elsewhere in the house, expect the PVD to stay bright while the lacquered pieces continue to mellow.
4) Is the Baldwin 6991 escutcheon suitable for a commercial building, or is it residential trim?
Residential. Baldwin classes the Estate 6991 as residential door hardware, so it's aimed at homes, high-end multi-family interiors and hospitality guest rooms rather than commercial openings carrying a grade or fire requirement. For a rated commercial opening you want trim listed for that application.
5) I'm replacing one damaged escutcheon on a set of Baldwin Estate doors. Will the 6991 match the rest?
It matches if the other doors are Estate Series Barclay trim in polished brass. The 6991 Barclay is an Estate Series pattern, so it lines up with the rest of that collection, but Baldwin's escutcheon patterns differ in outline and plate size. Compare your existing plate against the 2-3/4 x 11 inch dimension before you swap just the one.
