Baldwin BAL-R048.055.ENTR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Baldwin Estate R048 keyed rose come with the knob or lever, or do I order those separately?
Knobs and levers are separate. The R048 keyed set ships as two roses plus a cylinder and a deadbolt latch; the knob or lever, the latch, and the adaptor are all ordered on their own. So budget for at least three line items if you are building a complete entry: the rose set, the trim you want, and the latch/adaptor.
2) Is the R048 rose for a keyed entry door or a passage door?
Entry function, keyed. The set carries a cylinder and a deadbolt latch, which is what an exterior entry opening needs. For an interior passage or privacy opening you want the non-keyed version of the rose instead, since you would be paying for a cylinder you cannot use.
3) Will the Baldwin R048 keyed rose operate the cylinder on my existing tubular handleset?
Yes, that is the intended pairing. The entry roses operate the cylinder to a standard tubular handle set, so the R048 works as the interior/exterior rose trim on a tubular handleset opening rather than on a mortise lock body.
4) Is the R048 a lock, or just the trim plate?
It is the rose, the plate that trims the hole in the door around the knob or lever spindle. The keyed version bundles a cylinder and a deadbolt latch with the pair of roses, but there is no knob, lever, or tubular latch in the box. If you are replacing a complete lockset, you need more than this.
5) Is the R048 rose sold as a single rose or as a pair?
Every configuration is a pair. Entry roses are sold two to a set, one for each face of the door, and the Type option is Pair across all fourteen finish choices. If you only damaged one rose you still buy the pair.
6) How far does the Baldwin R048 rose stand off the face of the door?
Projection is 0.25 inch. That is a low-profile rose, so it sits nearly flush against the door face and clears trim, stops, and adjacent glass with almost no interference. Worth knowing if you are working a door with a narrow flat area around the bore.
7) Is the Baldwin R048 rose rated for a commercial building or is it residential trim?
Residential. The R048 is Estate Series decorative trim intended for houses and residential units. For a commercial corridor, a school, or anything that has to answer to an ANSI/BHMA grade on the drawing, spec commercial-grade lock trim instead; this rose is not classified for that duty.
8) I have Baldwin Estate hardware on my other doors. Will the R048 match?
It will if the rest is Estate Series. The R048 belongs to Baldwin's Estate line, so finish codes and design language line up with other Estate trim in the same house. The shape is the deciding factor otherwise: the R048 is an elongated contemporary rose with curves and clean lines, so it reads modern next to Baldwin's traditional round or oval roses even in an identical finish.
9) What finishes does the Baldwin Estate R048 rose come in?
Fourteen, and the range is wide enough to match most existing Baldwin trim in a house: Polished Brass, Non-Lacquered Brass, Vintage Brass, Satin Brass, Satin Brass and Black, Polished Nickel, Satin Nickel, Satin Brass and Brown, Graphite Nickel, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Venetian Bronze, Satin Black, Polished Chrome, and Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. If you are matching other openings, note that Non-Lacquered Brass is a living finish that will patina while Polished Brass will not.
