Baldwin BAL-R048.003.PV – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Baldwin R048 privacy rose come with the knob, latch, and turn button, or just the trim?
Just the trim. An R048 order includes either one or two roses, the matching backplate, and the retainer or retainers that hold the rose to the door. Knobs or levers, the latch, and the adaptors are separate orders, so plan on at least three line items to build a working privacy set.
2) What is the difference between the Pair and Half Pair option on the R048 privacy rose?
Pair gives you roses for both faces of the door, which is what you want on a bathroom or bedroom door being built up from scratch. Half Pair is a single rose with its backplate and retainer, for replacing one damaged side or matching a finish on an existing opening. Both choices are offered in all 14 finishes.
3) Will the R048 rose work on a mortise lock, or only a tubular latch?
The R048 is built for tubular privacy sets. Baldwin describes the rose as used to create tubular privacy sets, and it mounts with retainers to the door face rather than to a mortise case. If you have a mortise lock body in the door, this is not the trim for it.
4) How far does the Baldwin R048 rose stand off the door face?
Projection is 0.25 inch. That shallow profile matters where a door swings close to a wall, a casing, or another piece of hardware, and it keeps the rose visually flat against the door, which is the point of the contemporary elongated shape.
5) What is the Baldwin R048 rose actually made of?
Solid brass. On the Lifetime Satin Nickel version the brass is nickel-plated to get the warm silver tone while keeping the weight of brass, and that PVD finish is a satin, matte-like coating rather than a lacquer.
6) Is the Baldwin Estate R048 rose suitable for a commercial building or apartment corridor doors?
It is a residential product in Baldwin's Estate Series. For interior residential doors, bedroom and bath in single-family or high-end multi-family units, it is the right item. For graded commercial openings you want a commercial lockset line instead, since no ANSI grade applies to this decorative rose.
7) Which finishes does the Baldwin R048 contemporary privacy rose come in?
Fourteen: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 050 Satin Brass and Black, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, 060 Satin Brass and Brown, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112/11P Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome, and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. If you are matching other Baldwin trim already on the doors, order by that number, not by the finish name.
8) Can I use the R048 rose on a passage or dummy door instead of a privacy door?
This one is the privacy version, which is prepped for the privacy turn hardware. The R048 contemporary style itself is offered as complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy and Half Dummy sets, so if the door is a closet or a non-latching French door, order the dummy or passage version of the same rose rather than this privacy configuration.
9) I need to replace one cracked rose on an existing Baldwin door without redoing the whole set. What do I order?
Order a Half Pair in the finish code stamped or matched on the existing hardware. You get one rose, its backplate, and the retainer to secure it to the door, so the knob and the latch already in the door stay put. Confirm the existing trim is the R048 contemporary elongated rose, since Baldwin rose shapes are not interchangeable.
