1) What comes in the box with a Baldwin R052 dummy rosette, and what do I still have to buy?
The R052 dummy rose kit includes either one or two roses depending on the type you pick, the matching backplate, and the retainer or retainers that hold the rose to the door. Knobs or levers, the latch, and any adaptors are separate orders. Plan on selecting the knob or lever in the same finish at the same time so the set matches.
2) Should I order the R052 rosette as a pair or a half pair?
That depends on whether you are building a full dummy or a half dummy. A pair gives you two roses for a full dummy set, typical on inactive double doors where you want a pull on each face. The half pair is a single rose for a half dummy, used when only one side of the door needs a fixed knob or lever. Both options are offered across every finish Baldwin lists for the R052.
3) Will the Baldwin R052 rose cover the holes left by my old knob?
In most cases yes. Baldwin states that the R017, R048 and R052 roses all cover most singular tubular cut outs, so a standard round bore from a previous tubular knob or lever set is usually hidden. If the door was prepped for a mortise lock or has an oversized or oval cutout, that is a different prep and the rose is not intended to cover it.
4) Can I mix the R052 dummy rose with Baldwin passage and privacy roses on other doors in the same house?
Yes for passage, privacy and dummy. The R052 is offered across those functions in the Estate line, so a hallway with passage doors, a bath with privacy, and a closet or double door with dummies can all carry the same rose profile. One caution from Baldwin: interior egress roses do not match interior non-egress or dummy roses, so if any opening in the run uses the egress kit, that door will look different.
5) Does a dummy rosette need a latch or a bore in the door?
No latch is involved. A dummy set is fixed trim, so the knob or lever does not turn and there is nothing to retract. The R052 rose mounts with the supplied backplate and retainers, and you buy the knob or lever separately. That is why the dummy kit ships without a latch while the entry versions of Baldwin's Estate hardware include a cylinder and deadbolt latch.
6) What finishes does the Baldwin Estate R052 rosette come in?
