1) Will the BEA 10STRIKECU electric strike work in an aluminum storefront frame, or do I need a different model for hollow metal and wood?
One part covers all three. The 10STRIKECU ships with three faceplates, one for aluminum frames, one for hollow metal, and one for wood, so the same strike installs in a storefront jamb, a steel frame, or a wood frame. You pick the faceplate at install time rather than ordering a frame-specific version.
2) Is the 10STRIKECU strike fail safe or fail secure?
Both. The 10STRIKECU is field selectable between fail safe (unlocks when power drops) and fail secure (stays locked on power loss). That choice usually follows the code requirement for the opening: fail safe where the door has to release on alarm or power failure, fail secure where the opening must stay locked. Same part either way, so you are not committing to one mode at the time of order.
3) What voltage and current does the BEA 10STRIKECU draw, and can I run it off my existing access control power supply?
The strike runs on 12 or 24 VDC and 24 VAC. Current draw is 0.375 A at 12 VDC, 0.190 A at 24 VDC, and 0.280 to 0.565 A at 24 VAC. Size the supply against the highest figure for the voltage you are using, and add that to the rest of the load on the same circuit. On 24 VAC the AC draw is the one that catches people out because it can more than double.
4) Can the 10STRIKECU be energized continuously, or will it overheat on a fail safe door that stays powered all day?
Continuous duty at 12 VDC and at 24 VDC, so it can sit energized indefinitely, which is what a fail safe installation requires. On 24 VAC it is intermittent duty only, so do not hold it energized. If the design calls for a continuously powered strike, run it on DC.
5) Is the BEA 10STRIKECU UL listed for access control and for panic hardware use?
It carries both UL294 and UL1034 listings, and is described as UL/ULC Listed. UL294 is the access control system unit standard, UL1034 the burglary resistant electric door strike standard. Those are the two listings a specifier or AHJ typically asks for on a commercial controlled opening.
6) What kind of lock does the 10STRIKECU strike work with?
It is a cylindrical strike, so it is built to receive the latchbolt of a cylindrical lockset or knob/lever lock, not a mortise lock face or a rim exit device latch. If the door has a mortise lock or a rim panic device, you need a strike prepped for that latch geometry instead.
7) Does the 10STRIKECU buzz when it releases, or can I get a silent release?
Either. The strike offers silent or buzz operation, set during setup. Buzz is useful where staff need an audible cue that the door has released, for instance a receptionist buzzing a visitor in. Silent is the usual pick on a card reader opening in a quiet area such as a healthcare or office corridor.
