Bemis 3155CT 000 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Bemis 3155CT fit my elongated toilet bowl?
The 3155CT is an elongated seat measuring 18.438 inches long by 14.25 inches wide, with a 5.5 inch bolt spread, and it fits most manufacturers' elongated bowls. The 5.5 inch spread is the standard two-bolt spacing on commercial elongated china, so measure center to center between your existing seat bolt holes and confirm 5-1/2 inches. If your bowl is round front, this is the wrong shape.
2) Does the Bemis 3155CT come with a lid?
No. It's an open front, less cover seat, so there is no lid and there is no front section of the ring. That's the configuration written into most commercial and institutional plumbing specs for public restrooms. If you need a closed front seat or one with a cover, order a different model.
3) What does the STA-TITE Commercial Fastening System actually do on a toilet seat?
It's the mounting hardware, and it's the reason this seat gets specified in high-traffic washrooms. STA-TITE clamps the seat so it never loosens, and Bemis states it cuts installation time by about a third. For a property manager or MRO crew, the practical payoff is no repeat trips to retighten wobbly seats. The posts and pintles are 300-series stainless steel, so the fastening hardware resists corrosion in a wet environment.
4) What is a check hinge and why would I want one in a public restroom?
The check hinge stops the seat from travelling more than 11 degrees past vertical, so it can't flop back against the tank or the wall and crack. In schools, stadiums and other heavy-use facilities that's what keeps seats from breaking at the hinge. Note the hinge itself is plastic on the 3155CT, with stainless posts and pintles carrying the load.
5) Is the Bemis 3155CT plastic or molded wood?
Commercial-grade heavy duty plastic with molded-in color, not a wood composite. Because the color runs through the material, scuffs and chips don't show a different color underneath, and the surface resists wear and staining. Plastic is the usual choice where seats get cleaned with harsh chemical cleaners.
6) Does the DuraGuard antimicrobial on this Bemis seat protect users from germs?
No, and Bemis is explicit about it. DuraGuard is built into the seat material to inhibit bacterial growth on the seat itself. It does not protect users against bacteria, viruses or other disease organisms, and the seat still has to be cleaned and washed thoroughly before and after use. Treat it as a material-protection feature, not an infection-control measure, when you're writing it into a healthcare or food-service spec.
7) How tall does the 3155CT sit on the bowl, and does that affect ADA rim height?
Seat height is 2.625 inches. That number stacks on top of your bowl rim, so if you're working to a finished seat height target on an accessible fixture, add 2-5/8 inches to the rim height of the china you're installing it on and check it against your project requirement.
8) Where is the Bemis 3155CT made?
Country of origin is the United States; Bemis states the seat is designed and assembled in the USA and made with eco-friendly materials and processes. That's the detail government and institutional buyers with domestic-preference purchasing rules usually need on the line item.
