Blackburn 350 T 350 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Blackburn 350 T 350 copper compression T insulated, or do I have to cover it after crimping?
It's a bare tin-plated copper connector, no insulation on the body. Plan on insulating the finished joint yourself with tape, a heat-shrink sleeve, or a molded cover sized to the connector body. The main barrel runs 5.500 inches long at .700 inch diameter and the tap is 2.00 inches long at .875 inch diameter, so whatever cover you pick has to clear those.
2) Can I use a mechanical setscrew connector instead of the Blackburn 350 T 350, or does this need a crimp tool?
This one is compression only. It has to be crimped with a hydraulic or battery compression tool and the correct die, so it isn't a field substitute for a setscrew or bolted mechanical connector. If you don't have a compression tool on the truck, use a mechanical tap connector instead. The upside of compression is a permanent, non-reopenable joint that doesn't need periodic re-torquing.
3) Is the Blackburn 350 T 350 copper only, or can I land aluminum conductors in it?
Copper connector, tin-plated. Tin plating is there to protect the copper and keep the crimped joint from corroding in damp service entrance work. Don't put aluminum conductors in it, use a connector rated for aluminum or a dual-rated AL9CU connector for that.
4) Will the Blackburn 350 T 350 fit inside a standard meter socket or pull box?
Check your clear working space against the body: the main barrel is 5.500 inches long and .700 inch in diameter, with a tap leg 2.00 inches long and .875 inch in diameter branching off it. Add bending radius for 350 kcmil cable and the insulating cover on top of the crimped body, and this needs a reasonably deep enclosure or gutter. It is not something that tucks into a shallow socket.
5) Is the Blackburn 350 T 350 sold individually or in a box?
Sold each, one connector per unit, so order one per tap point. It's made in the United States. Order the correct compression die separately, it does not come with the connector.
