Sta-Kon RB3F – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RB3F blue fork terminal take?
The RB3F is sized for 1.5 to 2.5 mm2 conductor, which is the 16 to 14 AWG range. The blue insulation is the standard color code for that band, so if you are pulling 16 or 14 AWG stranded control wire this is the right barrel. For 22 to 16 AWG you want the red-coded size, and for 12 to 10 AWG the yellow.
2) Why choose a fork terminal instead of a ring terminal for a terminal block?
A fork (spade) terminal like the RB3F slides in under a loosened screw without removing it, which is why it is the common choice for terminal strips, relay bases, and panel blocks where you are landing a lot of wires and want to service them later. A ring terminal needs the screw out entirely but can't vibrate loose off the stud, so it is the better pick for motor leads, grounds, and anything on equipment that shakes.
3) Is the RB3F terminal copper or aluminum?
The barrel is electrolytic copper, so it is for copper conductors only. Do not crimp it onto aluminum wire, that requires a dual-rated AL/CU connector with the proper inhibitor compound.
4) Do I need a special crimper for the Sta-Kon RB3F?
Use an insulated-terminal crimp tool set to the blue (1.5 to 2.5 mm2 / 16-14 AWG) nest. Pliers or an uncalibrated tool will not compress the copper barrel to a proper gas-tight crimp and will crack the polycarbonate sleeve. One crimp per the color nest, then tug-test the wire.
5) What is the difference between the polycarbonate insulated Sta-Kon terminals and vinyl ones?
The RB3F uses a polycarbonate insulating sleeve rather than vinyl. Polycarbonate is the harder, higher-temperature material, so it holds its shape better in warm enclosures and resists cracking during crimping. Vinyl-insulated terminals are softer and more flexible. Both crimp with the same color-coded die for the wire range.
6) What is the exact part number and origin on the Sta-Kon blue fork terminal?
