Bobrick 287 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Bobrick B-287 folding shelf mount on a toilet partition, or does it need a solid wall?
Either one. The B-287 is a surface-mounted folding utility shelf made to install on a toilet partition panel or on a wall, so it works in a stall where there is no adjacent wall to use.
2) How much space does the B-287 shelf take up in a stall when it is folded up?
Folded, the unit sits close to the surface it is mounted on, with a stated product depth of 1-1/2 inches. The pull-down shelf returns to the upright position on its own when it is not being used, so it does not stay proud in the traffic path of a narrow stall.
3) Will a Bobrick B-287 hold up in a high-traffic public restroom?
It is built from Type 304 stainless steel in a satin finish, which is the grade specified for commercial washroom accessories because it resists corrosion from humidity and cleaning chemicals and does not show wear the way plated finishes do. Satin hides fingerprints better than a bright polish, which matters in an airport, school or stadium restroom.
4) Is the B-287 a fixed shelf or does it fold out of the way?
It folds. The B-287 is a pull-down shelf that springs back to the upright position when released, which is why it suits tight stalls and corridors where a fixed shelf would be in the way. If you need a permanent shelf that stays level under a load all day, a fixed surface-mounted washroom shelf is the better choice.
5) Does the Bobrick B-287 come in more than one finish?
Satin is the only finish offered on the B-287. If you are standardizing a building and the rest of your washroom accessories are satin stainless, it will match; if your existing trim is bright polished or a painted finish, this shelf will read differently.
