Bobrick 2840 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How many toilet paper rolls does the Bobrick B-2840 hold, and what roll size fits?
The B-2840 is a double-roll dispenser. Two chrome-plated plastic spindles carry standard rolls up to 5-1/2 inches (140mm) in diameter, roughly 1800 sheets per roll. That covers the jumbo-ish standard cores most commercial janitorial programs buy, but it will not take true jumbo tissue on a large core.
2) Is the Bobrick B-2840 surface mounted or recessed?
Surface mounted. Nothing gets cut into the wall, which makes it the practical choice for a tile or block restroom retrofit where you cannot open up a partition, and for toilet partitions where a recessed unit is not an option.
3) What is the utility shelf on the B-2840 for, and will it hold a phone or purse?
The shelf runs the full 16 inch width of the unit and is formed with 1/2 inch (13mm) returns and a hemmed front edge. The returns keep small items like a phone, keys or a wallet from sliding off, and the hemmed edge removes the raw sheared edge so there is nothing to catch a hand or a sleeve. It is a shelf for personal items, not a duty-rated grab surface.
4) Will the Bobrick B-2840 hold up in a high-traffic public restroom?
It is built from satin-finish stainless steel rather than plastic, so it takes cleaning chemicals and the abuse of an airport, school or stadium restroom without cracking or yellowing. The satin finish also hides fingerprints and swirl marks better than a bright polish, which matters when housekeeping wipes it down several times a day.
5) Can I replace the spindles on the B-2840 if they break or get stolen?
Yes. Bobrick sells a theft-resistant replacement spindle as part number 283-604, so a damaged or missing spindle does not mean pulling the whole dispenser off the wall. Worth keeping a couple on the MRO shelf if you run a lot of these units across a building.
6) Does the Bobrick B-2840 come in other finishes?
One finish only: satin stainless steel. If you are standardizing a restroom package around brushed or satin stainless grab bars, soap dispensers and mirrors, this matches. There is no polished, painted or bronze version of the B-2840.
