1) Will the Bobrick B-685 hold a jumbo standard roll, or just a small one?
The B-685 takes one standard roll up to 5-1/2 inches (140mm) in diameter, which is roughly an 1800-sheet roll. It is a single-roll open dispenser, so once that roll runs out there is no reserve roll behind it. In high-traffic restrooms where staff can't restock often, a twin-roll or multi-roll dispenser is the better call.
2) Is the Bobrick B-685 surface mounted or does it need a recess in the wall?
Surface mounted. The B-685 uses a concealed stainless steel wall plate that fastens to the wall, and the support-arm flanges then lock onto that plate, so no wall cavity or recessed prep is required. That makes it workable on solid substrates like tile over block or concrete where a recessed unit would mean cutting in.
3) Is the Bobrick B-685 acceptable for an ADA accessible toilet stall?
The B-685 is listed as ADA compliant. Compliance still depends on where you put it: the dispenser has to sit within the required reach range and clear of the grab bar, and its 3-15/16 inch projection needs to be accounted for in the stall clearances. The unit itself won't disqualify the stall, but the mounting location can.
4) Can I use the B-685 with coreless or jumbo roll tissue?
No. The B-685 is built for standard cored rolls on a spindle, up to 5-1/2 inches diameter. Coreless tissue has no core for the spindle to pass through, and jumbo roll tissue runs 9 inches and up in diameter, well past what this unit accepts. If your building is standardized on jumbo roll or coreless, you need a dispenser matched to that tissue format instead.
5) Does the Bobrick B-685 come in satin as well as polished stainless?
Both. The B-685 is offered in a bright polished finish and a satin finish, same body and same dimensions either way. Pick satin if you're matching existing satin stainless grab bars, mirrors, and soap dispensers in the room, bright polished if the rest of the washroom trim is mirror finish.
6) Will stainless toilet tissue dispensers like the B-685 hold up in a school or stadium restroom?
The body is stainless steel, which is the reason spec writers put these in schools, transit, and stadium washrooms: it doesn't crack like molded plastic and it cleans up after graffiti. Two things to know for abuse-prone rooms. It's an open dispenser, so the roll is exposed and can be lifted or soaked.
