Bobrick 299 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Bobrick B-299 cabinet be set up for a left-hand door swing?
Either hand works. The cabinet is inverted to switch the door swing from right to left, so you order one part number regardless of which way the door needs to open. Useful when you are standardizing a run of restrooms where corner clearances differ opening to opening.
2) Is the B-299 surface-mounted medicine cabinet ADA compliant?
Bobrick lists the B-299 as ADA compliant. Mounting height still governs on your job, since compliance depends on where the unit lands on the wall relative to the fixture and clear floor space.
3) How many shelves does the Bobrick B-299 have, and are they fixed?
Four stainless steel shelves, and they are adjustable, so the spacing can be set for tall bottles or for small items. Shelf material matches the cabinet body rather than being glass or plastic, which is the point in a high-traffic or vandal-prone washroom.
4) What is the mirror on the Bobrick B-299 made of?
No. 1 quality glass, 1/4 inch (6mm) thick, electrolytically copper-plated on the back. The copper plating is the layer that resists silver spoilage at the edges, which is the usual failure mode for a mirror sitting above a sink in a humid bathroom.
5) Will the B-299 cabinet hold up in a commercial restroom or is it a residential unit?
Built for commercial duty. The body is Type 304 stainless steel in satin finish, the door runs on a full-length stainless piano hinge rather than butt hinges that work loose, and it closes on a magnetic catch with a cable doorstop to keep the door from being swung past its travel. Property managers and MRO buyers specify it for exactly that reason.
6) What finish does the Bobrick B-299 come in?
Satin stainless is the only finish offered. That matters if you are matching it to other washroom accessories in the room, since satin stainless is the standard commercial finish and will sit correctly alongside satin grab bars, dispensers and towel units rather than against a polished or painted surface.
