Bobrick 3961 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the B-3961 work in a 4 inch stud wall, or does it stick out into the room?
It is built for a 4 inch minimum wall depth, which is why the waste receptacle body is only 8 inches deep and extends 4-1/8 inches (105mm) out from the finished wall face. So yes, it works in a shallow partition, but plan on that 4-1/8 inch projection into the room. If you have deeper wall cavity and want a fully flush unit, this is not the model to use.
2) Can I change the B-3961 to a different waste capacity later without tearing out the wall cabinet?
That is the point of the convertible design. The cabinet stays in the wall and the modules swap out in the field. The 12-gallon (45.5-L) receptacle it ships with can be changed to the 366-60 interchangeable receptacle at 6.0 gal (27.2-L) or the 368-60 at 18 gal (68.0-L). No cabinet replacement, no new rough opening.
3) Our building standardized on folded towels. Can this unit dispense folded instead of roll?
Yes, by swapping the dispenser module. The 3944-52 folded towel dispenser module drops into the same cabinet in place of the roll towel module. If you want to go the other direction and automate, the 3974-250 convertible automatic universal roll paper towel module with LED light also fits. All of it is field work with the cabinet left in the wall.
4) What size paper towel rolls does the Bobrick B-3961 take?
Universal roll towels 8 inches (205mm) wide and up to 8 inches (205mm) in diameter, up to 800 ft (244m) long. It also holds a 3-1/2 inch (90mm) diameter stub roll and transfers to it automatically when the main roll runs out, so housekeeping is not throwing away partial rolls. The pull-towel mechanism delivers a 12 inch (305mm) sheet per pull with no crank or lever to touch.
5) Is the Bobrick B-3961 ADA compliant for a public restroom?
Bobrick lists the B-3961 as ADA compliant. Mounting height still governs on the job, so set the unit so the towel dispensing point falls within the reach range required for your occupancy.
6) How much waste does the B-3961 hold, and can staff pull the liner without unlocking a separate door?
Waste capacity is 12 gallons (45.5-L). The receptacle is removable and locks into the cabinet, so it stays secure in a public restroom but lifts out for servicing rather than making staff bag waste in place.
7) Is the B-3961 manual or does it need power at the wall?
Manual operation, no power required. The pull-towel mechanism is touch-free in use, meaning the user grabs the hanging sheet rather than a handle or crank, but there is no sensor and nothing to wire. If you want an automatic sensor dispenser in the same cabinet, the 3974-250 module is the electric option.
8) What material and finish is the B-3961, and will it hold up in a high traffic restroom?
Stainless steel with a satin finish, which is the standard choice for schools, airports and other heavy-use washrooms because it resists corrosion and hides scuffs better than a mirror finish. The flange is seamless and beveled, so there is no exposed joint at the wall line to collect grime. Satin is the only finish offered.
