1) Can the Bobrick B-39617 be surface mounted instead of recessed?
No. The B-39617 is a recessed unit with a seamless beveled flange and needs a wall cavity at least 4 inches deep behind a 16 by 54-3/4 inch opening. For a surface application you need a different Bobrick cabinet entirely.
2) What paper towel rolls fit the B-39617 dispenser?
It takes universal roll towels 8 inches (205mm) wide and up to 8 inches (205mm) in diameter, up to 800 feet (244m) long. It also holds a 3-1/2 inch (90mm) diameter stub roll and transfers to it automatically, so the last of the old roll gets used before the new one starts. It is a roll towel unit only, not folded towel.
3) Can I convert an existing Bobrick cabinet to a different towel module without tearing out the wall?
Yes, that is the point of the convertible design. Field conversion is done without replacing the cabinet already in the wall. The unit interchanges with the 3974-250 convertible automatic universal roll towel module with LED light and the 3944-52 folded towel dispenser module.
4) Is the towel dispenser touchless or does it need a crank?
It is a manual pull-towel mechanism, no battery or power. Bobrick calls it touch-free because the user grabs the towel tail rather than a handle or lever. Each pull delivers a 12 inch (305mm) length.
5) Can I run a smaller waste receptacle in the B-39617 cabinet?
Yes. The standard liner is 18 gallons (68.0-L), but the cabinet accepts the 367-60 interchangeable receptacle at 12 gallons (45.5-L) if your service route or liner stock is built around the smaller size.
6) Will the waste bin get pulled out or tipped in a high-traffic public restroom?
The receptacle is removable for emptying but locks into the cabinet in service, so it can't be lifted out by the public. Construction is stainless steel in a satin finish, which is what holds up in airports, schools and stadium washrooms and cleans with standard non-abrasive washroom care.
7) Do I get both the towel dispenser and the trash receptacle, or do I order the modules separately?
It ships as a complete unit: the convertible universal roll paper towel module and the 18-gallon waste receptacle, in one recessed stainless cabinet. You don't order the module separately unless you are later converting it to the folded-towel 3944-52 or the automatic 3974-250.
8) Does the B-39617 come in any finish other than satin stainless?
