1) Which Bobrick toilet paper dispensers does the B-4288-9 spindle fit?
The B-4288-9 is the replacement spindle for Bobrick ConturaSeries and ClassicSeries multi-roll tissue dispensers: B-2888 surface mounted (2 rolls, 2 spindles), B-3888 recessed (2 rolls, 2 spindles), B-386 partition mounted (4 rolls, 4 spindles), B-4288 Contura surface mounted (2 rolls, 2 spindles), and B-4388 Contura recessed (2 rolls, 2 spindles). Note the spindle count per unit, since a two-roll dispenser takes two spindles.
2) Will this Bobrick spindle work in a combination seat cover and tissue dispenser like a B-357 or B-3574?
Yes, but only on units built after May 1994. The combination models covered are B-3471 (4 spindles), B-3474 (2), B-3571 (4), B-3574 (2), B-35701 (4), B-347 (4), B-357 (4), B-3479 (2), B-3570 (4), B-3579 (2) and B-35709 (2). Anything manufactured before that cutoff uses a different spindle.
3) I have an old Bobrick dispenser from the early 1970s. Is the 4288-9 the right spindle?
No. For dispensers made prior to 12/73, Bobrick specifies part number 288-500 instead. The 4288-9 covers the later production. If you are unsure of the age, check the unit for a date or compare the existing spindle before ordering.
4) How many Bobrick 4288-9 spindles do I need to order per dispenser?
It depends on the roll capacity of the unit. Two-roll dispensers such as B-2888, B-3888, B-4288 and B-4388 take two spindles each. Four-roll units such as B-386, B-347, B-357, B-3471, B-3571, B-35701 and B-3570 take four. The 4288-9 is sold as the individual spindle, so multiply by the number of dispensers you are servicing across the property.
5) Is this Bobrick tissue spindle theft resistant for a high traffic public restroom?
It is. The 4288-9 is a theft-resistant design in one-piece molded ABS plastic, which is what Bobrick uses in public and commercial washrooms where loose spindles walk off. Black in color.
6) Do I have to replace the whole Bobrick dispenser if the spindle is broken or missing?
No. The 4288-9 is a field-replaceable spindle, so a cracked or missing spindle on a covered ConturaSeries or ClassicSeries unit is a parts fix rather than a dispenser swap. The dispenser body, mounting and prep stay as they are.
